Our Story

How it all started...

In early 1898, Mrs. Tabytha Watson and her two children moved from Gainesville, Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico. They did not find a Baptist Church in the town or state, so they worshipped with the African Methodist Episcopal Church for about five months.
That September, being inspired by her heavenly Father, Mrs. Watson started conducting Sunday School and prayer meetings in her home at 4th and Copper Avenue, then from these meetings a Baptist Church was organized and named Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Expanding the vision...

Our 125-year journey has been marked by our dedication to serving the youth of our community. We have provided a nurturing environment for young minds to grow in faith and character. As we move forward, we must redouble our efforts to attract and engage the youth of today, ensuring that they too become torchbearers of our faith and stewards of our church's legacy. Moreover, we cannot forget our responsibility to support and uplift our community. Our church has long been a source of hope, assistance, and comfort for those in need. In the coming years, let us expand our outreach efforts, serving as a pillar of support for the marginalized and underserved among us.

Where we are headed...

As we celebrate this historic milestone, we also look to the future with a vision of expansion. While we cherish our current sanctuary, we must explore ways to accommodate our growing congregation and community needs. Expansion is not just about physical spaces but also about broadening our spiritual horizons and increasing our reach. To commemorate our 125th Anniversary and to propel us into this exciting future, we have planned a series of special events and activities. These celebrations will not only allow us to express our gratitude to God but also inspire us to take action and embrace our mission with renewed zeal.
